Benazir Income Support Programme Latest Updates and Good News

The Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), one of Pakistan’s largest social safety nets, continues to serve millions of low-income families across the country. As of mid-2025, several positive changes have been announced that bring hope to the beneficiaries. From increased payments to better access for vulnerable groups, BISP is evolving to meet the needs of Pakistan’s poorest families.

Here’s a detailed look at the recent updates and good news regarding BISP:

📢 June 2025 Payments Have Started

The most recent development is the release of the April–June 2025 installment. The run of payments began on June 1, 2025, and will go on until the end of the month.  Each eligible family is receiving Rs 13,500, a significant financial relief ahead of Eid-ul-Adha.

Despite the official disbursement period starting on June 1, most people anticipate collecting their payments between June 10 and June 30. This slight delay ensures smoother payment operations and gives time for authorities to set up distribution camps and biometric verification points in cities and villages across Pakistan.

Beneficiaries are receiving SMS alerts from 8171, informing them when and where to collect their cash. If you’re eligible but haven’t received a message, you can send your CNIC number (without dashes) to 8171 to confirm your status.

💰 Increased Budget for 2025–2026

The planned rise in the BISP budget for the next fiscal year is one of the most important pieces of good news. The government plans to allocate Rs 716 billion for the program in FY 2025–26, a 20% increase compared to the previous year.

This increase will allow BISP to do two main things:

  1. Add new beneficiaries to the program, especially those recently disqualified or affected by inflation.
  2. Increase the financial assistance provided to each family.

Starting January 2026, the quarterly stipend will increase from Rs 13,500 to Rs 14,500. This increase comes in response to rising inflation and is designed to help families meet their basic needs, including food, education, and healthcare.

👩‍👧‍👦 Relief for Previously Disqualified Families

In April 2025, BISP made a significant policy shift by adjusting the PMT (Proxy Means Test) score threshold for certain vulnerable groups. The PMT score determines who qualifies for financial aid based on household income, expenses, and assets.

Here are the changes:

  • Widows, divorced women, and households that include disabled children are now eligible up to a PMT score of 35, instead of the previous limit of 32.
  • This change will requalify thousands of families who were unfairly excluded in past assessments.

Moreover, BISP now allows people to request a new survey every two years. Those previously disqualified due to temporary income improvements or technical issues now have the opportunity to reapply and have their status rechecked.

Importantly, this process is free of cost. BISP officials have warned the public not to pay any agent or third-party individual for registration or verification. Official BISP staff and offices provide all services at no charge.

🧾 Easy Ways to Check Eligibility

If you want to know whether you qualify for the new BISP payments, you can do so in several simple ways:

  • Via SMS: Send your 13-digit CNIC to 8171. You will get a reply with your eligibility status.
  • In Person: Go to your nearest BISP tehsil office or payment camp with your CNIC.
  • Biometric Verification: Make sure your fingerprints are registered with NADRA to avoid delays during payment collection.
